Copyright is the protection of intellectual property and gaining permission to use any content that is not yours.
It is important when taking photographs as we do not wish to infringe on other people's copyright.
Release and consent form
A release and consent form is a way for models or owners of a intellectual property to give permission for a photographer to use themselves or their IP in the photographers photos and have that photo 'released' somewhere else.
R and C forms are also used to gain permission to take photos of private property but is not needed for public places.
But when taking photos in public places:
- You must not use telephoto in public places as it can take photos of people without the knowing.
- Do not take photos of brands or businesses as it is copyright and the companies do not want you to misrepresent the company.
Legal and Ethical
We need to be conscious of representation when taking pictures so that:
- We don't get sued for our actions
- We don't act or appear suspicious in public places
- We follow and respect the law set by the government
- We don't want to misrepresent companies, people, religion, ethnicities, disabilities and culture.
